Workshops Available at the Conference
Exploring Robotics with LEGOs View Workshop Description (Available for Sessions 2 or 3). Explore the robotic world with LEGO� MindStorm robots. Learn about the inner workings of robots and have the opportunity to modify the robot`s structure and operation. Create new and exciting features and capabilities using a simple control interface and easy-to-build LEGO� structural components. LSI-Local Science Investigation View Workshop Description (Available for Sessions 2 or 3). LSI - Can they really clone my dog!? Who knew? This radio girls workshop will be a hands-on opportunity to delve into the world of science radio journalism. You will learn how to craft a creative story that informs the public about the rapid advances of scientific discovery. THEN, you will get behind the scene with us and produce your own mock-doc that will air on local radio. Session 1 - Higher Ed 101 View Workshop Description (Must choose between Higher Ed 101 and Women in Technology for Session 1.) Learn what you need to be doing now to prepare yourself for college. Meet with admissions staff from various colleges and universities across the Wasatch Front. Get helpful information about requirements, scholarships and more. It�s never too early to start investigating options. Note: Parents are also invited to this session. Session 1 - Women in Technology View Workshop Description (Must choose between Higher Ed 101 and Women in Technology for Session 1.) Learn about the careers of notable women in science and technology. Discover the challenges and rewards associated with careers in science. This is an interactive session that will include the opportunity for questions and answers. The Power of Protein View Workshop Description (Available for Sessions 2 or 3) Come discover the role that protein plays in athletic performance and recovery! When and why do athletes consume sports bars and protein supplements? You will examine and taste several different sports bars and determine the best nutrient profile. Using this nutrient profile, you will be given several ingredients and asked to create your own sports bar. The Twilight Zone View Workshop Description Presented by:Intermountain Healthcare (Available for Sessions 2 or 3) When you go to the doctor and blood tests are ordered, what happens to the blood they take from you? Where does it go and who are the people that work with it? What does your blood tell your doctor about what is or isn�t wrong with you? What are hospital labs all about? Follow us as we take a Bella and Edward, with their symptoms, through the process of being diagnosed by laboratory testing. We are All MOLECULES! View Workshop Description (Available for Sessions 2 or 3) The Leonardo�s exhibits are hands-on and interactive. You will be able to use a Digital Microscope to look at cells and other samples that you provide, measure your Carbon Dioxide output, and learn about food by burning calories!
